What is implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that replaces a
missing tooth root.The implant forms a very strong bond with the
jaw. Once this occurs new teeth
can be attathed to the implant to provide a fixed
replacementtooth.
Is this procedure painful?
NO, the procedure is carried out with a lockal anaesthetic- the
same type usedfor routine dentistry. There may be some
swelling/bruising for a day or two afterwards but often this is
not the case. Any minor discomfort is usually controlled with
over the counter medication.
What alternatives are there to
replace missing teeth?
It may be possible to restore the missing space with a bridge.
This usuallyrequires drilling of the adjusted teeth and provides
a solution that is not as easy to clean. Another alternative is
to have a remouvable denture made.
